It'd feel more natural if the MC and the prospective partner had spent real-world time interacting. The third is to have romantic progression require time in-company - not just hitting the right checkpoints. Change it up a touch - a gift might be poorly received when they're in a bad mood, or perhaps the romance never really blooms. This is something that honestly all Bioware games needed in general - after playing before (or after reading an online guide) you know exactly what you need to go to reach some goal through dialogue - "do X before Y point, do A after B point, make sure they're in your party for event C" and the like. The second is to have a bit of randomness going on (or at least more complexity). A bit of an embrace, a kiss, a change in how they address the main character in dialogue. The first is to have some intermediate shows of affection. It probably wouldn't really have taken much, honestly. In my opinion, Bioware could've done just a few things to make the process seem a lot more natural and dynamic. The three romantic options did feel a bit less interesting than the other party members. The characters are decent enough - really, I feel like I liked a lot of the Jade Empire characters (especially the quirkier ones, like Henpecked Hou or Kang the Mad). I remember the romance choices as being the bisexual princess, the childhood friend/hidden princess, both of the women (!) and the bisexual guy. Go right back to interacting like you did before romance, possibly with the choice to re-trigger the sexy-times cutscene (Mass Effect). Get propositioned once the romance path is complete.ĥ. Hit the right dialogue options to "open up" the path.ģ. You generally could do this for all party members - usually in order to gain a perk or other benefit.Ģ.

Increase the character's favorability (usually dialogue options plus a couple side quests.

but honestly, Bioware's approach to romance in games has always been rather basic:ġ. I remember Jade Empire's romance options being decent (disclaimer: I think I must've played it well over a decade ago).
